The purpose of the Sales & Operations Communications Senior Specialist position is to develop, consult, deliver and continuously improve the effectiveness of communications – including content and delivery processes – to Lowe’s stores and applicable stakeholders across the enterprise (e.g Field leadership, Contact Center agent network, and Distribution Centers). The primary focus of this position is to support and serve as a communications subject matter expert for our various business partners across the company. This calls for writing expertise, executive messaging support and extensive communications development, project management, planning and execution.

The Sales & Operations Communications team uses vehicles such as Lowes’ intranet, internal email, an internal task management system, a weekly internal online Sales & Operations planner, internal television broadcasts and video, and store/field events to develop and distribute information regarding Corporate and Store Operations objectives, initiatives, major events, and other relevant news.

The Sales & Operations Communications team’s mission is to provide store, field and other employees with relevant, timely and accurate information that promotes engagement in company initiatives, helps employees be successful in their roles, and drives Omni-channel service and sales execution. Working under the Operations Supportumbrella, this is done by:

  • Consulting and collaborating, strategically and tactically, with business and communication partners across the enterprise
  • Planning and developing intentional, audience-driven communication strategies
  • Delivering simple, effective and highly informative messages through the most impactful communication vehicles

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Working under a consultative model, partner closely with individual business areas across the enterprise as a communications planning subject matter expert
  • Serve as communications lead for ongoing or recurring projects and programs that impact stores and other audience stakeholders
  • Advocate for best practices in communications to all audience stakeholders
  • Coordinate and/or participate in applicable cross-functional meetings to understand communication needs of business partners, always keeping in mind the perspective of our largest audience, store employees, as well as our other audience stakeholders
  • Work with business partners to build rich and long-range communication plans which link strategy objectives to operational execution
  • Write, edit, gate-keep and deliver content on behalf of business partners to Lowe’s audiences via Sales & Operations Communications vehicles (including email, Lowe’s Intranet, TV broadcasts, the task management system, and more)
  • Write in a variety of voices and styles to appeal to diverse audiences
  • Manage the content review and approval process, often working closely with executive and business partner leadership to ensure best communication practices, compliance, and realization of intent
  • Develop relevant materials/resources/tools to support the needs of our business partners
  • Participate in activities on behalf of management team, including meetings, as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Four year degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or similar degree; equivalent applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of educational background
  • 5+ years of professional communications experience in communications role or industry
  • Outstanding ability to develop and manage communications plans and projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including style, content, and grammar; must have the flexibility to write various levels of copy based on the audience and channel of delivery, including executive messaging
  • Outstanding presentation skills; able to articulate message or needs in writing or verbally; can effectively present those messages to management, business partners, and customers
  • Excellent critical and analytical skills; able to think broadly, ask questions, seek answers and respond to the changing business needs
  • Understanding of how a retail business works; working knowledge of retail principles, processes, and functions
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills; ability to meet tight deadlines and changing demands
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and follow-through
  • Strong and assertive interpersonal skills; must be self-motivated with strong personal initiative
  • Basic HTML and MS Office skills
  • Must be a champion and advocate for Lowe’s employees
  • Great teammate, customer-first mindset, and desire for excellence; ability to work alone or closely with others on a team, both as an mentor and individual contributor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism or similar degree
  • Corporate experience in a large organization, preferably in retail
  • 8+ years of professional communications experience in communications role or industry
