Okaloosa Gas District


Okaloosa Gas District (the District) is a natural gas utility that constructs, operates and maintains a natural gas transmission and distribution system located over a four county area in Northwest Florida. The District serves almost 40,000 natural gas residential and commercial customers. The District also serves Whiting Field in Santa Rosa County, and Eglin, Hurlburt, Duke, Ammo, TAC, Red Horse and the 7th Special Forces military installations in Okaloosa and Walton counties. Additionally the District sells gas to the city utilities of Milton and Gulf Breeze, and transports gas for TECO Peoples Gas in Panama City Beach. The District is a full service utility, providing a variety of gas related services including piping and installation in addition to offering a variety of gas burning appliances.

Public Relations Specialist II
Northwest Florida
Valparaiso, FL


Works with Government, Large Commercial, Natural Gas and Industry-Related Associations to include the United Stated Government Relationships. This position is part of a team that focuses on the Top Tier Customers of Okaloosa Gas and also responds to media inquiries and produces media releases as directed by and in conjunction with the Vice President of Marketing and Customer Service.

Incumbents in this position will be held to the District’s Gold Standard for Customer Service.


  • Develop PR campaigns and media relations strategies targeting the District’s Top Tier Customer and Political Affiliations. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Marketing) and maintain open communication with senior management. 
  • Prepare and distribute press releases. 
  • Organize PR events (e.g. open days, press conferences) and serve as the company’s coordinator. 
  • Become an active member of designated Chambers, Government Associations, Industry Associations and local City and Municipal Entities. 
  • Seek and develop opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising with Area Chambers and Organizations that could be of influence to the District. 
  • Address inquiries from the media and other parties as directed by the Vice President of Marketing and Customer Service. 
  • Track media coverage and follow industry trends. 
  • Monitors and facilitates social media actions and notifications. 
  • Prepare and submit reports as associated with the mission of the District as it pertains to the job. 
  • Manage Public Relations issues. 
  • Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Public Relations/Communications or similar field strongly preferred) plus 5 to 10 years of related Public Relations experience or, Master Degree (Public Relations/Communications or similar field strongly preferred) plus 2 or more years of related Public Relations experience.


  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Publisher specifically and other similar programs). 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to adjust or seek out information by asking appropriate questions to gain access to the needed information. 
  • Strong communication skills for use in the public.


  • Must be appropriately dressed for a business casual work environment including when acting in a work related capacity (after hours functions). 
  • Occasionally required to work other than normal business hours to accomplish requirements of the job. 
  • Travel will be required for Industry Association and other related or similar meetings. 
  • May be required to work overtime with little notice. 
  • Regular attendance is essential. 

Physical Effort:

  • Requires sitting for long periods of time, standing for long periods of time, viewing and working on a computer for extended periods of time, and occasional walking, bending and light lifting.
