University Communication (UC) translates ECU’s message into strategic and compelling communication and campaigns through the university web site, news releases, its official social media, East magazine, storytelling, production of promotional videos and video news stories along with infographics, creation and development of promotional brochures, and annual reports. The purpose is to provide strategic communication and marketing guidance and support to increase the knowledge, understanding, appreciation and support of the University and its work with broad and varied constituencies, from prospective students to identified thought leaders to prospective donors.

Through ECU News Services UC performs media relations, public affairs, internal communication and strategic communication work on behalf of the university and reports and disseminates information about events, activities, research, policies, individuals and alumni of the University, both through the media, videos,, the university website and through owned publications and other forums. UC, through Creative Services, works with all university departments to conceptualize, design, develop, and produce written, audio-visual, digital and print projects to brand, communicate, and market their messages to appropriate audiences. Creative Services also provides strategic marketing advice for the university, including performing advertising buys for the university.

Job Duties:

This position participates in all aspects of contemporary media production from preproduction through postproduction and packaging of the final product for various platforms. It utilizes extensive, comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of media production to deliver high quality products across multiple mediums and works collaboratively to support student success and University strategic directions, in accordance with University image styles and standards. This position cultivates and maintains professional relationships with clients or customers by listening, identifying needs, and responding accordingly and shares expertise in educating student staff and interns in the areas of project planning, equipment utilization, cataloging/archiving, lighting techniques, casting of talent, script writing, directing, location scouting, post production editing, export and compression techniques, and final broadcast to TV, web, and social media outlets. It provides creative and technical decision-making that enhances the aesthetic quality of a project through artistic techniques, tools, and talents (including deep familiarity with modern postproduction and motion graphic software platforms). It takes a primary role in equipment inventory, as well as helping to maintain video archives. The position assists in annual and preventive maintenance and takes a proactive approach to potential equipment needs and performs other related duties as required to accomplish the responsibilities and functions of the office.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience related to the area of assignment in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • 3 years advanced video production experience.
  • Required: UR Llink to a demo reel.
  • Proficient in the use of Apple computers, HD and 4K video, DSLR/mirrorless camera systems, audio and lighting equipment, and Adobe CC Suite and related graphics applications, on a daily basis.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to accurately and thoroughly communicate using logic, clarity of thought, persuasiveness, and creativity.
