The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) is a global not‐for‐profit membership organization advancing the understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of thrombotic and bleeding disorders. The Society is dedicated to transformative scientific discoveries and clinical practices, the development of young professionals and the education of physicians, scientists and allied health professionals wherever they may live. At the ISTH, we initiate and promote education and outreach initiatives, research activities, scientific meetings, peer‐reviewed publications, expert committees and the development of standards allowing a common language and approach to basic and clinical science all over the world. Our organization is based in Carrboro, North Carolina, near the University of North Carolina‐Chapel Hill campus.

Marketing Coordinator

The Marketing Coordinator is a new position on the ISTH Marketing and Membership team and will be a critical role that assists with marketing and communications, including daily management of the ISTH social media platforms and support to the global World Thrombosis Day campaign. The Society currently serves 5,000 members in 94 countries and this position also supports ISTH publications marketing including, the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) and Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis (RPTH). The Marketing Coordinator is a key member of our team, working closely with team members to implement the marketing and communications plan for the Society. With strong project management, communication and organizational skills, the position requires relentless attention to detail, and solid ability to build strong relationships. The role requires an individual who thrives in an energetic and highly motivated team and multicultural environment.

The successful candidate will have at least two to four years of professional experience in a marketing or communications position. They will possess strong communication skills, with excellent written skills, and will be comfortable serving as a public speaker. This talented professional will have strong attention to detail, and is excited to travel at least four to five times a year to represent the Society.A background in marketing, communications, or journalism is highly desired and ideally the candidate has some graphic design skills and command of two or more languages. In addition, the candidate has the ability to quickly build productive working relationships within ISTH staff as well as ISTH leadership, members, and partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Marketing and Communication

  • Works directly with the Director of Marketing and Membership and the Marketing and Membership Manager to execute yearly communication plans for ISTH meetings, education, membership, publications, World Thrombosis Day (WTD) and public affairs programs 
  • Builds relationships and community to include outreach to identified groups, sharing information about the Society and campaigns with groups around the world; working with leadership to initiate cross‐membership/marketing opportunities 
  • Leads the execution of event marketing via the ISTH travel booth program, traveling to conferences and meetings both domestically and internationally. Coordinates shipping to/from meetings and helps set its yearly strategy, execution and evaluation. Supports all ISTH Congresses on site 
  • Acts as a membership thought‐leader and thoroughly understands the Membership program and its yearly goals 
  • Maintains and updates archives; utilizes Basecamp and other Project Management tools 
  • Provides administrative support for relevant committees 
  • Translates often scientific, complex and dense information into condensed, actionable materials to be utilized by a variety of implementing individuals. Drafts and develops materials for various audiences 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

World Thrombosis Day Marketing

  • Works directly with the Director of Marketing and Membership with support from the Campaign Senior Specialist to manage the Society’s WTD campaign including the execution of yearly plans, project coordination and day‐to‐day project implementation 
  • Implements the WTD campaign by ensuring the communication channels including the website, social media channels, and downloadable resources are up‐to‐date. Proactively makes suggestions for improvements and provides exceptional partner relations. Supports WTD activities at global events 
  • Generates and distributes well‐written content through text, images, multimedia, and interactive features to accurately convey the mission of WTD. Informs and engages key audiences; finalizes content for distribution on the WTD website

Social Media Management

  • Supports the ISTH media program through development of well written press releases, media outreach, and wire distribution 
  • Works directly with the Marketing and Membership Manager to support a strategic email marketing program, social media efforts and website content development 
  • Possesses the ability to create eye‐catching, brand‐adhering graphics to enhance social media engagement 
  • Monitors, analyzes and tracks creative performance of the Society’s Relationships, WTD campaign and travel booth; ensures that all tracking is implemented correctly and efficiently so that deadlines are met and executions are flawless

  • Outstanding organizational, time management, logistical, and planning skills. Proven ability to prioritize and attend to multiple assignment 
  • Working knowledge of journalism and media relations best practices 
  • Exceptional written communication skills (samples required) and proven ability to synthesize, analyze, and present complex scientific information clearly 
  • Strong editing experience, knowledge of AP and Chicago Manuals of Style, and outstanding attention to detail 
  • Skilled in content management systems and social networking tools 
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with international audiences, including medical/scientific audiences 
  • Strong team player, flexible, with high energy, enthusiasm and sense of humor 
  • Desire to learn and contribute 
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 5 times per year as needed 
  • Multicultural sensitivity via all forms of communication, i.e. written, spoken, presentations, etc. 
  • Ability and willingness to work additional hours as required

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Journalism, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired 
  • Project and/or campaign management experience is essential 
  • Significant experience with online content delivery (website, blogs, social media) 
  • Agency experience working on behalf of multiple clients, awareness campaign coordination and/or community/relationship building on behalf of an international organization is a plus 
  • Experience adhering to editorial standards and style guides (CMOS, AP, APA, etc.) preferable
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS is preferable as well as skills in Photoshop or related software
