Position Details

Intern: Communications (Fall 2018)

Position Description Objective:

This position will take a proactive role on the communications team and assist with processes and projects related to communications deliverables for the remainder of this year. With an international scope, this position will support all 10 Service Market Logistics sites within the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Service Market Logistics (SML) is part of Volvo Group Trucks Operations (GTO). We are an organization of approximately 3,700 employees globally in more than 40 locations. Every day, we are delivering world-class operational excellence for our customers, based upon smart logistics solutions. Our job is to develop, manage and optimize the Service Market supply chain for all Volvo Group brands and JV’s. The scope for Service Market Logistics includes Flow Optimization, Inventory Management, Distribution Center operations, Customs & Trade, as well as the development of logistics solutions to ensure the highest possible parts availability, delivery precision and quality everywhere in the world. Purpose of the Position:

This role provides the position holder with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment with valuable on-the-job experience through contact with professionals in their field of study. Our internships are structured learning experiences where internship and our full-time professionals work together on projects within their selected functional area. The internship allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial for the student and the Volvo Group.

Main Tasks:

  • Promote the great work being done across our sites in a story telling format through written articles or videos. 
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of external and internal key events across the region. 
  • Support employee townhall meetings by finding innovative ways to drive content and enhance participant interaction. 
  • Help collect and generate content for the monthly site communication package and Digital Information Boards. 
  • Serve as the project lead for a new company presentation of our regional business. 
  • Other tasks assigned based on the chosen candidate’s desires for professional development.

Professional Objectives:

  • Weekly Writing Assignments: Brief written summaries of the learning experiences and project updates may be required 
  • Performance Feedback: Throughout the entire experience, the manager will provide verbal and written feedback on work performance. At the end of the internship, each internship will be given a formal written evaluation based on their work performance

Skill Set Requirements and Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Applicants must been rolled and pursuing a degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications/Journalism, or similar at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship. 
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. 
  • Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Primarily PowerPoint) 
  • Proficiency working with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, or video editing software is advantage. 
  • Fluency in Spanish would be a benefit but not required in this position.

Expected Commitment:

This is a part-time position with a target minimum of 20 hours per week. The specific work days and hours will be flexible, but agreed upon with the hiring manager.
