Garden Theatre

Originally built in 1935 as a single-screen cinema, the Garden Theatre was the first in Central Florida built for “talkies,” and was a gathering place for locals to watch the latest newsreels and films of the day. Constructed in the Mediterranean Revival style, the interior of the theatre was modeled after a Spanish courtyard with “Romeo & Juliet” balconies, Spanish tile roof, and a dark blue ceiling resplendent with “stars.” The theatre underwent several renovations until closing in 1963. Soon after, the interior was completely removed and the sloped floor was covered with cement to level the surface to be used by a farm supply store.

Through the tireless efforts of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, the restored Garden Theatre reopened in February 2008, and with over 450 events per season, has quickly become a shining star on Plant Street. The Garden Theatre brings a cultural performing arts center to Winter Garden, a town with unparalleled charm in Central Florida. This achievement is revitalizing the downtown historic district, and bringing a nostalgic sense of community back to the citizens of Winter Garden.

By restoring its architectural charm and re-introducing well-loved family programming, this treasured gem fills a cultural void in West Orange County. By presenting 4-7 events each week, a study by Americans for the Arts (the Arts and Economic Prosperity Report) shows the estimated annual economic impact of the operational theatre to be over $3 million annually.

Position Details

Integrated Communications Manager
Central and Northeast Florida
Winter Garden, FL

The Integrated Communications Manager will provide support for the Director of Patron Development toward Garden Theatre productions, fundraising efforts, events, programs, and general brand awareness. They will work in close collaboration with other internal departments to grow the Garden Theatre’s brand image within in Central Florida through press and donor relationships, consistent copy and database management, and supporting new audience cultivation at special events.


This position reports to the Director of Patron Development and will work closely with the Manager of Design and Advertising, Digital Content Specialist, Group Sales Manager, and Grants Specialist to support the Garden Theatre’s mission to inspire a discovery through theatrical experiences that are innovative, impactful, and inclusive.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Provide assistance with all aspects of individual giving program, including efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through direct mail, phone calls, emails, and special events in order to increase contributed income; 
  • Work with the Director of Patron Development to ensure that sponsors and individual donors receive appropriate recognition; 
  • Write and coordinate paper mail and email appeals, donor correspondence, acknowledgement letters, and invitations in a timely manner while ensuring the highest quality; 
  • Enter data, process, and acknowledge all gifts, memberships, special event and program sponsorships, auction donations and purchases, and in-kind donations, etc. on day of receipt while maintaining high standards of accuracy; 
  • Run month-end reports to reconcile with accountant; 
  • Take an active role in coordinating and presenting the Garden’s message to potential funders, the press, and political and community leaders; 
  • Provide support to Director of Patron Development for cultivation and stewardship events including opening nights, donor parties, and other special events;
  • Create queries in order to pull data from the database as needed for event mailing lists, membership lists, data cleanup, and other purposes;
  • Perform administrative tasks for Patron Development Team, including answering telephones and maintaining department files, as needed.


  • Develop and execute press strategies and calendar to attain high visibility to support sales; 
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relations with local, regional, and national print and broadcast media and publications;
  • Coordinate critic’s attendance on opening nights and other special events and prepare necessary materials for critic/press; 
  • Write and distribute press releases, initiate preview story ideas, and ensure that accurate listings of information are widely disseminated; 
  • Serve as staff liaison between photographers, production department, and press requesting photo sessions; 
  • Maintain and monitor calendar of awards and special publication issues for which Garden Theatre and/or staff members can be submitted; 
  • Assist digital content specialist in various publicity-related projects as needed, including production photo calls, internal video requests, and external media requests; 
  • Maintain historical records of reviews and other articles; 
  • Coordinate and disseminate monthly reports to reflect communications efforts.


  • Manage the compilation, copywriting, and proofing of all general event support materials, including the season brochure, production programs, curtain speeches, and enrichment activity programming, among other needs; 
  • Assist in creating stewardship and acknowledgement materials; 
  • Coordinate with digital content specialist to expand and grow social media communications.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field; 
  • 2+ years’ experience as a public relations, fundraising, or box office professional, or related field; 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both journalistic and creative writing; 
  • Strong desire to be a positive and influential brand ambassador for the Garden Theatre; 
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and travel as needed;
  • Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines; 
  • Consistent application of confidentiality, discretion, diplomacy and tact; 
  • Creative and pleasant personality who enjoys working with a team in a fast-paced environment; 
  • An appreciation for professional live theatre and the performing arts; 
  • Proficiency with donor databases, Macs, and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; 
  • Experience with Patron Manager or similar ticketing software will be an advantage.
