Basic Job Function:

The Director of Marketing (DOM) will be responsible for driving business results (room nights and revenue and ancillary revenue) through the development and implementation of brand building marketing strategies and tactics. Specific areas of focus include: 1) digital marketing including website communications and enhancements, Pay per Click (PPC) and social media and 2) partnerships, promotions and events to increase brand awareness and drive revenue during need periods.

The candidate must have 1) experience in recommending and implementing website communications and enhancements to drive customer engagement and revenue 2) experience in developing and managing PPC campaigns that drove significant ROAS and 3) strong understanding of social media and the necessary tools to manage and measure. This position will also track and analyze all digital efforts and recommend changes as appropriate. The DOM will lead the digital marketing agencies in the development and execution of all web, PPC and social media efforts and ensure that activities, events and promotions are properly administered through all channels.

This position will work closely with customer facing areas (verticals) across the organization to develop and implement marketing plans to support them in achieving their objectives. This position will track industry best practices / competition and recommend new initiatives based upon this tracking. This position will also be responsible for managing and optimizing the marketing budget to efficiently deliver our objectives and develop and implement marketing / communications processes that improve effectiveness and efficiency. The DOM will assist with other marketing activities / projects within the department including Public Relations efforts as needed.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

Strategy Development and Implementation:

  • Assist in development of yearly marketing strategy including review of results and learning; implications from those results & learning, development of objectives, strategies and tactics
  • Lead development and implementation of marketing strategies and tactics for web, PPC, social media, promotions, events and partnerships
  • Consistently monitor the marketplace (target audience and marketing communications trends) and competition and apply that knowledge to recommend new strategies / tactics

Digital Marketing:

  • Manage Marketing Communications Manager
  • Lead digital marketing agencies’ efforts and coordinate with other marketing agencies
  • Ensure all digital communications deliver our brand positioning and are attention getting, simple and clear
  • Maintain / enhance website to ensure delivering against strategy and guest / prospect expectations and that all content is current and relevant
  • Manage all PPC efforts
  • Drive engagement through social media: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Linked In, Pinterest, FourSquare and Google+ as well as new appropriate offerings
  • Develop editorial calendar for resort activities, events and promotions through all digital channels
  • Review, analyze and respond to relevant consumer posts 
  • Integrate keyword tags throughout all communications to improve our search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Write copy as needed for all digital channels
  • Manage social media reporting and communication tools
  • Prepare monthly digital dashboard for management and make recommendations for action based on learning

Events, Promotion and Partnership Development and Implementation:

  • Seek out partners who are good match with the Sea Island brand
  • Develop and implement promotions and events that deliver business results in need periods (standalone or with partners)
  •  Track results of all efforts and make recommendations for future action based on learning

Financial Management:

  • Assist in the development and lead the ongoing management of the Marketing budget. 
  • Ensure all budget dollars efficiently maximize business results
  • Conduct monthly review to ensure budget is on track

Miscellaneous:

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all work areas
  • Uphold appropriate departmental standards of quality/timing
  • Uphold and ensure compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Report all equipment problems and maintenance issues, known safety hazards, or unsafe practices and procedures to supervisor immediately
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement
  • Willing and timely execution of other duties as delegated by leadership

Minimum Requirements:

  • Five years of web management, PPC and Social media experience (Hospitality experience a plus)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Marketing or Marketing Communications or New Media (MBA a plus)
  • Strong marketing strategy development and execution skills
  • Experience in managing a digital marketing agency
  • Experience in metrics and marketing research (in the context of branding and marketing communications)
  • Strong budget and financial management skills – experience in managing a marketing budget that included multiple media types
  • Strong writing and proofing skills - especially short form content development for social media, responses to Trip Advisor posts, search marketing and the website
  • Must be highly organized and process driven with strong project leadership and management skills
  • Strong analytical skills – have worked with digital agency to prepare analytics about audience growth, demographic profile and overall campaign success (including ROAS and revenue generation) and develop recommended actions from those analytics
  • Understanding of digital marketing best practices
  • Strong cross organization collaboration skills – proven ability to build consensus for recommended ideas and projects and work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Effective decision-making skills
  • Strong problem-anticipation and solving skills
  • Detail oriented and able to manage competing priorities and multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment and consistently deliver results

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
