The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Communications Specialist to join it Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization for an exciting opportunity at the Kennedy Space Center, FL.

In this role you will support the CST-100 Starliner program part of BDS Space and Launch Systems – including tactical responsibility for internal and external communications for the Starliner program and related activities, and support for other space exploration initiatives including the International Space Station and Space Launch System. The position also will support communications related to the Kennedy Space Center site.

To succeed in this role you will contribute to the planning, research, organization, writing, production and distribution of information to worldwide audiences through print, electronic, social, presentation and face-to-face tactics to advance the BDS strategy and support business objectives.

Additionally, you will support a program manager and subject matter experts, collaborate with internal and external partners, including a senior Boeing Starliner/Space Market communicator and NASA, to advance common communications goals.


  • Represent the Starliner program on specific projects; contribute to and execute strategic communications plans 
  • Handle media relations for specific projects on a local, national and international level 
  • Help prepare program manager and subject matter experts for specific public speaking and media engagements 
  • Draft news releases, social media plans and internal employee communications 
  • Help measure and analyze communication strategy and tactics to optimize effectiveness 
  • Maintain internal and external website content; continuously evaluate innovative communications approaches and tools for using advanced/emerging technology to achieve long-term communications and brand / marketing goals 
  • Collaborate with Brand and Market Positioning teams to promote space products and capabilities 
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on event and milestone-driven public relations activities, trade shows, etc. 
  • The ideal candidate must have strong writing and editing skills, the ability to use relevant communications tools and processes, and the ability to work with other functions and businesses as part of a geographically dispersed team.


This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Communications, public relations, marketing, or related degree
  • 2+ years of experience producing, writing, and editing multiple communications deliverables such as news releases, statements, messaging documents, feature stories, speeches, videos, social media, etc.

Desired Qualifications/Experience:

  • 1+ year of experience contributing to and implementing project or communications plans, strategies, and tactics. 
  • Aerospace & defense industry experience 
  • Experience supporting senior leaders and subject matter experts 
  • Experience in promoting stories to news media and interacting with media in support of business activities 

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and typically 3 or more years' related work experience, a Master's degree and typically 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires the ability to obtain a clearance for access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to NASA (DOT) random drug and alcohol testing.
