The Manager, Communications role is a key member of the marketing team and supports each of the businesses in Fire and Security Products Americas in a variety of high-level communication responsibilities, focusing on public relations and social media.

The position is responsible for working with each business unit marketing communications lead to create and execute a business-wide communications plan that is aligned with the business unit strategy, and meets the needs of the leadership team, our employees and our customers. Responsibilities include preparation, writing and distributing all PR and social media, tactics around product launches, promotions, product issues, community relations and the division’s extensive calendar of meetings and events. The manager sets goals, monitors work and evaluates results to ensure that the work is effective and within budget.


  • Planning: In consultation with the business unit marketing communications lead, leadership team and product marketing/management managers, develops and recommends an annual plan for the each marketing group. The plan will set out objectives, plans, and specific activities to be pursued in each area of responsibility
  • Social Media: Works with each business unit’s marketing communications manager to develop strategy, establish goals, create content calendar, and works with agency and marketing communications manager to create content. Posts content as scheduled, tracks metrics and adjusts plans as needed to reach goals.
  • Public Relations: Works with each business unit’s marketing communications manager to develop strategy, establish goals, create content, and works with agency and marketing communications manager to write releases, manage the approval process and distribute releases. Confirms releases are posted to appropriate internal and external web sites. Tracks metrics and adjusts plans as needed to reach goals.
  • Events/Trade Shows: Supports marketing team and events manager to utilize public relations and social media to capture the attention of the intended audience and deliver the key messaging for each event.
  • Resource Management: Manages the use of internal and external resources to deliver on all plans (e.g. internal marketing support team, advertising agencies, PR firms, etc.).
  • Budget: Works with each business unit marketing communications lead to manages Schedule of Expense (SOE) and budgets for defined activities, identifying and implementing savings opportunities where possible.


To be considered, candidates should possess the following professional characteristics AND be able to demonstrate them through the candidate assessment and selection process:

  • A minimum of 7 years relevant progressive Marketing generalist experience with focus in public relations and social media 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly complex organization, with multiple stakeholders, and use strong influencing skills and action-orientation to make decisions and increase our marketing throughput 
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communications skills that reflect an ability to clarify and simplify complex issues and subject matters 
  • Demonstrated experience with business-to-business marketing 
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with all levels of customers, employees, leadership team, and press 
  • Demonstrated writing and editing experience for all media types 
  • AP style writing experience 
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency under demanding deadlines with attention to detail 
  • Highly efficient project management abilities and the ability to balance multiple projects 
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and work in an environment that is constantly changing 
  • Detailed development and management of division budget 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a successful track record 
  • Overall understanding of customer types and needs for each 
  • Travel up to 30%


  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or Business 
  • Master's degree/MBA preferred
