Business Intelligence Developer

We are seeking an innovative, curious and hard-working developer to join our growing Digital Insights and Strategy team. The Developer will be responsible for developing big data assets to fuel day-to-day analytics as well as ad hoc analysis to drive strategic decisions. By creating robust, flexible data assets (which include aggregated tables, landing raw data, normalized and cleansed datasets etc. ) analysts will have faster time to deep insights about our customers and business. The developer’s work product will also enable ongoing strategic tracking and data-driven automated activities such as content recommendations etc.

The Business Intelligence and Analytics Developer should be experienced working directly with large volumes of data using SQL, Spark and other Hadoop technologies), Alteryx, R, Adobe Analytics, Google Big Query, Python Google Analytics and other tools. Our business changes quickly so the ability to explore, understand new data, and resolve problems on deadline is key – it also means that we work hard to stay current on the latest technology and tools.

45% Develop data resources to enable analysis, reporting, modeling and visualizations

  • Work with analysts and business owners to understand data needs and reporting applications including how data and systems should integrate.
  • Develop data assets (data extracts, relational database schemas, stored procedures and other automation, data cleansing and enrichment processes) to make accurate, meaningful data available to analysts to use for a variety of reports and activities
  • Test new solutions for accuracy and performance including validating data accuracy, performance and compatibility with other systems
  • Use new resources such as Big Query, data lake and other cloud storage processes to gather and aggregate data in the most efficient way
  • Develop metadata and other cleansing and normalizing processes to make data consistent and usable.

25% Create a roadmap of data assets and an overall architecture for data development including automating routine processes and streamlining processes

  • Develop an ongoing roadmap to develop a system of data and resources that are logical and efficient
  • Automate routine activities and implement monitoring

20% Identify and develop relevant datasets and data sources

  • Work with analytics staff to identify data needs and gaps
  • Liaise with CMG data services as appropriate to develop data sources
  • Help evaluate, land and validate data
  • Integrate new data into the existing data ecosystem through metadata and other mechanisms

10% Support analysts’ self-service use of data through coaching, documentation, training

  • Help non-developer analysts access data through basic SQL using SQL prompt libraries, pre-built queries and other resources
  • Document data and analytics resources for general consumption
  • Conduct regular training and ad-hoc coaching with analytics staff.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Information architecture, MIS, computer science, statistics, mathematics preferred


  • 4-6 years of analytics experience working with a variety of data sources including data from marketing channels (email, etc.), web and digital product data such as Google Analytics
  • Experience working in a large data environment doing advanced SQL development
  • Experience with developing assets for analytical applications – in particular, building centralized assets that can answer a variety of questions
  • Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, or related software required

  • Knowledge of MS Office, Project Management practices
  • Strong desire to learn new software, skills
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Experience with creative and analytical thinking – knowledge of how to ask and answer questions with data
  • Experience managing large projects with a close attention to detail and high-quality performance
  • Tableau, R, Alteryx, Python skills preferred
